Mayor Joseph L. Williams Jr. Fire Station

The Mayor Joseph L. Williams Jr. Fire Station, also known as Huntington Fire Department Station 2, is a state-of-the-art facility located at 1950 9th Avenue, at the corner of 9th Avenue and 20th Street in Huntington, West Virginia. Opened in November 2023, this modern station was designed to enhance emergency response times and improve firefighter safety and well-being. Station 2 is home to the Thundering Herd’s custom designed Engine 2 as well as Tower 2 and a Reserve Engine.

Strategically situated on the south side of the city, the station ensures rapid deployment of resources during emergencies, particularly in the event of citywide incidents. The facility features advanced amenities, including an in-house breathing system for air-pack refilling, specialized washing machines for decontaminating gear, designated areas to prevent the transfer of harmful substances into living quarters, and a dedicated training room.

With solar panel installations at Station 2, the City of Huntington has demonstrated a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. The city has implemented many energy-saving measures in multiple facilities, including LED lighting upgrades and HVAC system improvements, aiming to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

This new station replaces the previous facility at 6th Avenue and 20th Street, serving as a beacon of public safety and community engagement in Huntington.
